01

Establish the operational issue

Remote support is most useful when the symptom and its impact are clear. Explain whether the whole plant is stopped, a single machine is unavailable or a particular operating mode is affected. Record the first observed fault and any changes that preceded it. A photograph of the relevant screen and exact message often communicates more than a broad description that the PLC is not working.

  • Plant and equipment identity
  • Exact alarm or fault text and when it began
  • Affected modes, production impact and current machine state
  • Recent electrical, software, network or mechanical changes
02

Confirm a workable access path

The published recycling portfolio describes remote access and commissioning using mobile communications. The access method for your site needs to be confirmed separately. Connection availability, permissions and the software on the support workstation determine what can be investigated. Use your organisation’s approved access method and keep the session under site control.

  • Named site contact and approved session timing
  • Available engineering workstation and required software versions
  • Connectivity to the controller, HMI or server involved
  • Scope of access and authority to make a change
03

Keep someone at the plant involved

A remote engineer cannot see every condition in the physical installation. A site contact helps confirm equipment state, collect information and coordinate the operator. Any activity that could affect machine operation needs to follow the plant’s procedures and be agreed before it occurs. The investigation may identify a wiring, mechanical or device issue that requires local assistance.

  • Operator or maintenance contact available during the session
  • Clear communication before tests or changes
  • Site-controlled operational permission and isolation procedures
  • Escalation to on-site inspection when remote information is insufficient
04

Record the outcome

At the end of the session, summarise what was observed, what changed and what remains unresolved. Save a new backup if software or configuration was modified. Confirm any follow-up work and whether further monitoring is required. A useful support record becomes part of the plant’s maintenance history.

  • Symptoms and relevant diagnostic findings
  • Approved changes and affected versions
  • Backup location and change record
  • Follow-up action, owner and agreed timing

Request assistance

Call Rod or Steve with your equipment details and describe the issue. Support availability, remote access suitability and response arrangements are confirmed directly; this page does not promise around-the-clock coverage or a fixed response time.
